Robusta coffee, also known as Robusta coffee, is the second most important coffee variety. Approximately 39% of coffee production comes from this variety. Vietnam is the world’s largest exporter of Robusta coffee. Other important exporters include Brazil, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Uganda, and Ivory Coast.
The Robusta coffee plant is a woody tree or shrub, and mature plants can grow up to 10 meters tall. The coffee cherries are round and the beans are smaller than Arabica beans. The caffeine content in Robusta beans is approximately 2-4%, while in Arabica coffee it is only about 1-2%.

Robusta coffee plants can begin to be harvested when they are 3-4 years old. They start producing beans after about 20 to 30 years. Robusta coffee thrives in tropical regions, with an ideal altitude below 1000m. The preferred temperature is around 24-29°C, and rainfall should be above 1000 mm. Robusta coffee plants require more sunlight than Arabica coffee plants.
Robusta coffee has a higher caffeine content than Arabica coffee. Robusta coffee has a bitter, strong flavor, suitable for those who prefer strong coffee. The price of a bag of Robusta coffee is usually only half that of Arabica coffee. Currently, nearly 90% of the coffee growing area in Vietnam is planted with Robusta coffee.
Robusta coffee has many health benefits. Robusta coffee beans are rich in antioxidants, and in some countries, Robusta coffee has been used as a folk remedy to treat ailments such as asthma, headaches, and jaundice. Robusta coffee is also used in face masks to exfoliate and remove excess oil from the skin.
